On his 12th birthday, Alexander wishes his family would have a day that would make them understand the day he had just had. This works too well.
This is not a laugh a minute, but goes for the more somber note with some hilarity in doses. All of the cast is strong, but there were some pacing problems that caused the film to drag in a few spots. A few good laughs were to be had, but mostly it was a smiley fest.
All in all, a good family film; go to a matinee. No Post credit scenes.
Flytrap rating: 6.5/10
