After the screaming in horror over Man Of Steel and BVS, we are getting assurances that there will be less of the grim and dark.
“[In the past, I think the studio has said, ‘Oh, DC films are gritty and dark and that’s what makes them different.’ That couldn’t be more wrong,” Johns told The Wall Street Journal. “It’s a hopeful and optimistic view of life. Even Batman has a glimmer of that in him. If he didn’t think he’d make tomorrow better, he’d stop.”
Johns is working with Ben Affleck on the standalone Batman film, and hopefully some that optimism will make it into the script, but his comments are not giving me much hope. Calling Batman’s attitude “hopeful and optimistic” is not at all what I saw, which was more “murderous and sinister”. But we’ll see. Wonder Woman is the next release; let’s see how killing tons of Germans will lighten the mood.
