When a TWA pilot is approached by the CIA to do some reconnaissance over South America, he makes the first of many bad decisions that make for some entertaining moments.
Cruise, as usual, takes this rather mundanely written movie and elevates it into a fascinating character study. There have been several movies about Americans working for the Cartels, and this is one of the better. Some scene-stealing scenery plus some tense moments flying and landing keep this one moving right along. Cruise carefully shows what motivates his character; some of the others are not so well-painted, but do work in their own context.
I’ll recommend this one, mostly based on Tom Cruise charisma. There are no post-credit scenes so you can fly on out when they roll.
