A generation or so in the future, almost everyone spends a lot of time playing in a Virtual Reality Role-Playing Game. A group of the players fight an Evil Corporation to solve a puzzle and save the game, which will somehow save the world. I’m still not that clear on how that was supposed to work
First of all, this film is gorgeous…when it’s in the game. The real world is kind of grungy, but not in a very interesting way. The characters keep switching back and forth between worlds and I really did not find any of them that engaging in either world. I did see it in 3-D, but that didn’t really help. And the story just didn’t ever really click; it was pretty cliche.
I can’t really recommend this, but if you must see it, go to a matinee and save a few tokens. There are no mid/post credit scenes, so feel free to end game and leave when they start to roll; they seem like a lot of quarters went into them.
