Because of the problems I’ve had with VLC, I have spent some time searching for a replacement. Here it is.
This dandy little app plays blu-ray discs fine, unlike a certain other app that promises, but does not deliver. It also plays every other media, video and audio, that I have and does so perfectly. I noticed it seems to upconvert some older videos I have, but I’ll need to verify that with them; I’ll update this when I find out.
The menu is pretty straightforward, but there are some key commands that are helpful:
Stop: Ctrl+S
Play/Pause: Space button
Next: Alt+Down
Previous: Alt+Up
Mute: M
Volume up: Ctrl+Up
Volume down: Ctrl+Down
Fullscreen: F11
Playlist: F3
Player settings: F5
Open file: Ctrl+O
Open folder: Ctrl+P
Unfortunately, the key commands are not programmable at this time.
During playback, just moving the cursor to the bottom will bring up the controls. In the upper right, that Down Arrow brings up the main menu.
Easy to use, robust and, did I mention, FREE! You can get it here.
Let me know what you think.
