What was supposed to be a relaxing vacation near the beach turns into a nightmare when a twisted mirror of the family appears and attacks them.
This is one scary movie and Peele keeps the tension going throughout most of it. All of the actors are great, especially the two kids. Beautifully shot and focused, this will keep ypou on the edge of your seat for most of the ride.
However, there is a time when over-explaining things gets in the way of the mood and that does happen here. And instead of just giving us a movie that scares the beejesus out of us, there is a very forced attempt at a metaphor that just doesn’t hold the plot together; instead it creates holes that are too obvious to ignore. Finally, there was just one twist too many that ended up almost souring the experience for me.
I’ll recommend this one, but don’t think about it too much. I would say this is too scary for young kids. There are no mid or post credit scenes, so you are free to get out when they start.
